Tamar Braxton was taken to the hospital during the dress rehearsal for Dancing with the Stars Monday. According to her pro Val Chmerkovskiy, Braxton was sick with pneumonia.

Despite missing most of the show, she was not eliminated from competition after making a dramatic, last-minute return 20 minutes before the end of the episode.

"Tamar is not here. You've noticed that. She was taken to the hospital earlier today midday through dress rehearsal," co-host Tom Bergeron said at the top of the broadcast. "Now, I underscored at the top, this is very much a live show. We don't have all the information right now. She might return in time to dance live here. We'll keep you posted as we learn more."

The judges scored video of her performance during dress rehearsal.

"You just saw a person that shouldn't have been here, but was here because she felt bad for her teacher and partner," Chmerkovskiy said after the footage aired. "She came on the lot 15 minutes before we danced, sick with pneumonia and exhausted."

The pair earned 22 out of 30 for the video, which the judges pointed out likely would have been higher had they seen it performed with the passion a live performance usually has.

Before the dance footage, DWTS aired a video package showing Braxton and her pro rehearsing this week. It highlighted her busy schedule, which Bergeron pointed out could have had something to do with her illness.

"Monday through Wednesday I was at The Real. Thursday I was in Vegas. Friday I came back to L.A. and had a concert with Kem," Braxton said in the video package. "Saturday I got on a plane and went to Orlando. Sunday I'm back here, doing my camera blocking."

Braxton showed up minutes before she was scheduled to dance for a group performance with Nick Carter.

"What the hell were you thinking? I'm amazed you are here," Bergeron told Braxton after the dance. He told her the network lawyers said Braxton would have been eliminated had she not showed up to perform.

She and Carter earned 27 out of 30 for their performance to a cover of The Beatles' "Hey Jude." That, combined with the audience vote, was enough to keep her from elimination.

Braxton is not the first star to be sidelined because of health issue this season. Kim Zolciak-Biermann was eliminated from the show in late September following a mini stroke. Her doctors had cleared her to dance, but she was not cleared to fly from her home in Atlanta to Los Angeles in time for the broadcast.
